“Prophet” and “Messenger” difference

Bagherpour Kashani: There is no difference in that both are divine envoy, but the difference between them is expressed in the teachings of Shiite tradition.
An Audience: Since the series of the prophets has ended and on the other hand the only way to find certainty about them is to see the “miracles” they have; at this time, how can we have certainty and faith in the prophets?
In the narrations of the Infallibles differences between prophet and apostle have stated. For example: “عَنْ زُرَارَهَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنْ قَوْلِ اللّهِ عَزّ وَ جَلّ وَ کانَ رَسُولًا نَبِیّا مَا الرّسُولُ وَ مَا النّبِیّ قَالَ النّبِیّ الّذِی یَرَی فِی مَنَامِهِ وَ یَسْمَعُ الصّوْتَ وَ لَا یُعَایِنُ الْمَلَکَ وَ الرّسُولُ الّذِی یَسْمَعُ الصّوْتَ وَ یَرَی فِی الْمَنَامِ وَ یُعَایِنُ الْمَلَکَ…” The Zurara b. A’yan been narrated: I asked Imam Muhammad Baqir about the verse of Allah: ((and he was an apostle and prophet)): what is the apostle and the prophet mean? He said: the prophet is one who sees and hears when he is sleep but he cannot see angels and the Prophet is one who sees angels too. (Muhammad ibn Ya’qub al-Kulayni, Al- Kafi, Vol. 1, p.176, Muhammad ibn Hasan Safar, Basâ’ir al-darajât, p. 368-370 [with a slight difference]…
2. Ayatollah Khoi in the literal and technical definition of a miracle said: قد ذکر للاعجاز فی اللغة عدة معان: الفوت. وجدان العجز. إحداثه کالتعجیز.
فیقال: أعجزه الأمر الفلانی أی فاته، و یقال: أعجزت زیدا أی وجدته عاجزا، أو جعلته عاجزا.
و هو فی الاصطلاح أن یأتی المدعی لمنصب من المناصب الإلهیة بما یخرق نوامیس الطبیعة و یعجز عنه غیره شاهدا علی صدق دعواه… The word miracle has several meanings: the loss of something, frustration and impotence in the other, disabling the opposite side … But Terminological meanings of the word miracle is: the person who claims his position issued from Allah, as evidenced for his words really must do something contrary to the laws of creation and outside of the normal route, which others is incapable of doing it { This extraordinary work and doing it is called the “miracle} (Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei, Al-Bayan Fi Tafsir al-Quran [The Elucidation of the Exegesis of The Qur’an], p.33)
